About Story Hollow

Hi, I’m Steph—founder of Story Hollow and a lifelong lover of books and small-town life.

Story Hollow isn’t just a bookstore—it’s a dream rooted in homegrown values, and a deep love of stories. I’m proud to be the fifth generation living and working on my family’s farm here in Madisonville, Tennessee. This community is in my blood, and opening a bookstore in the heart of downtown feels like a natural extension of the place that raised me.

My love of reading began with a copy of My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. That book wasn’t just an escape—it was the moment I realized that books could be a home. A place to grow, to imagine, and to gain the kind of wisdom that shapes who you are. That belief still guides me today: Every chapter feels like home.

This bookstore is a true family effort. My husband, Chris, and I—along with our three kids—have poured our hearts into creating a space that feels warm, welcoming, and rooted in community. My parents are also part of the journey, bringing years of love, encouragement, and small-town spirit to everything we do. Together, we’re building something that reflects both where we come from and where we hope to grow.
